The Black Factory

Kicking off the Spring/Summer 2023 season, Bizzle has formed its first collaboration with young Warsaw-based artist The Black Factory. Joint designs for the upcoming collection will be released gradually throughout the summer. During our work together, we asked Mateusz for a short interview that will allow us to better understand his work and artistic activity.

How did your adventure in art begin? Was there a particular moment or event that stood out in your art career?

I started my adventure with art quite early, especially since my parents are an art teacher and a visual artist. Since childhood I did not part with paints, even during my stay in the hospital everything had to be dirty from paint. Then there was a break and when I was about to go to college I found that nothing else than drawing and painting gave me such pleasure and satisfaction. Studying art strengthened my conviction that this was the only right path for me, but a very demanding one.

What inspirations and themes often appear in your artwork? Is there anything in particular that fascinates you and influences your creative process?

The themes of the works are very diverse. Sticking to one theme would bore me to death. Mainly these are urban climates and organic forms. I try to play with form, mix styles and do what gives me pleasure, then the ideas come by themselves.

Can you tell us about your favorite art project you’ve worked on? What were the challenges you faced and what were the results?

So far, the most interesting but also the most challenging for me was to open a stickers gallery – Sticky Gallery. On an area of 17 sqm, I gathered thousands of works of street art artists from all over the world. For me, a person who participates in this game, contact with artists and interacting with their works was very motivating and rewarding. Despite the fact that now SG is no longer in operation I am still proud and happy to have been able to create something like this.

What are your artistic goals and ambitions for the future? Do you have any dreams or projects you would like to undertake?

I would like to learn to weld and work in metal. There are still many ideas and projects before me. I would like to create a series of large-format paintings, but for now I don’t have the space for them I’m also turned on by interior design, so maybe going in that direction would be an interesting experience.

How do you think your works influence your audience? What is your idea or message that you would like to convey through your art?

My early works often had an implicit message for the viewer. Often chastising, questioning the rules of the world, the sad reality, they were kept in black – hence The Black Factory. Now I mainly work with color, the abstract spaces take the viewer on a journey. They live a life of their own, enclosed in a frame, they invite discovery, questions about important things and make you ponder.

We are grateful for the trust given to us by The Black Factory to create the collection for the Spring/Summer 2023 season. If you would like to learn more about Mateusz work or see the available work we cordially invite you to visit his Instagram: @the_black_factory.
